What is
the best browser to use?
Well, here we go again with another is X better than Y
question. And again, the answer is there is no "better." But
you will find plenty of people who will swear by one or the
other. Really it's just a matter of preference.
My personal
experience, again, has been that I prefer Internet Explorer.
Why? Well first off, it is the most popular browser. Does
popularity make it better? No, but in this case (as opposed
to the case for Norton) the browser and the operating system
are written together. They are written to compliment each
other. They are written so they work seamlessly. That being
said, sure, Internet Explorer has security holes--but so
does Firefox. So does Safari. So does Chrome. So does Opera.
You can't get away from it. Oh, sure, someone could invent a
completely secure browser with ZERO security holes...but it
would be a crippled browser. It would have absolutely no
"fun" abilities to it. It would pretty much be a text
browser kind of like they used to be way back when Al Gore
invented the Internet (computer industry humor.)
Anyway, one
of my biggest reasons for saying IE is "better" (again, only
in my own professional and personal opinion) is because for
the most part, everything is written around IE. It's not
written for Firefox. So if some things are different for
Firefox than they are for IE, then they will only work in
IE. Case in point. When you go to pay a payment here on my
website and you click the PayPal logo (as opposed to
selecting a specific amount and paying that amount) then in
Firefox it used to simply open a new page with the PayPal
picture and do nothing else. It didn't completely understand
the script (that was provided specifically from PayPal) and
therefore didn't work at all. Granted, they have since fixed
that problem (Firefox has) but still. It always
worked with Internet Explorer.
Now as far as
some people thinking it's more secure so you won't get
viruses and spyware with it like you do with IE, well, just
remember--this is what I do for a living... not "your friend
that knows a lot about computers." (No offense) But I remove
viruses and spyware on a daily basis from all kinds of
setups. Whether they're running Windows 7 or Windows XP.
Whether they're using IE or Firefox or Chrome. Whether they
have AVG Free or the full, very expensive, very sluggish
"Norton Everything" program that they paid $100 for. Like I
said in my "who has the best antivirus" note... it doesn't
matter what software you have, or what browser you use. If
there's a virus where your computer is going there's always
a chance you can get it no matter how little or how much
protection your computer has--and yes, even Macs get viruses
despite their claims. If they didn't, then tell me why they
sell several different antivirus programs written
specifically for Macintosh systems?
